Alice Walker Gives Obama Advice

Posted: November 13, 2008 in Should Be Slapped

Read the whole thing here.

“I would advise you to remember that you did not create the disaster that the world is experiencing, and you alone are not responsible for bringing the world back to balance. A primary responsibility that you do have, however, is to cultivate happiness in your own life. To make a schedule that permits sufficient time of rest and play with your gorgeous wife and lovely daughters. And so on.”

“I would further advise you not to take on other people’s enemies. Most damage that others do to us is out of fear, humiliation and pain. Those feelings occur in all of us, not just in those of us who profess a certain religious or racial devotion. We must learn actually not to have enemies, but only confused adversaries who are ourselves in disguise. It is understood by all that you are commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely. However, as my mother used to say, quoting a Bible with which I often fought, “hate the sin, but love the sinner.”

A good model of how to “work with the enemy” internally is presented by the Dalai Lama, in his endless caretaking of his soul as he confronts the Chinese government that invaded Tibet. Because, finally, it is the soul that must be preserved, if one is to remain a credible leader. All else might be lost; but when the soul dies, the connection to earth, to peoples, to animals, to rivers, to mountain ranges, purple and majestic, also dies. (more…)

I am censoring myself from commenting on this one.

Censor “off”

With every other sitting president, the view has always been that the buck stops with him. Now all of a sudden, “It’s not his fault.”

Yep, Obama. Leave all those world problems to the crafty ol’ White men to figure out. Your primary goal: “…cultivate happiness in your own life.”

Saw that one coming for miles.

While I think that Alice Walker alienates herself with some of her views, based on the tone during this post-election season, her take on this one is shared by many.

I may comment later on her lil’ “working with the enemy” mess.

  1. Peg says:

One might remind Alice Walker that Barack Obama was not elected to be the Dalai Lama, or, as she puts it, a “caretaker of the soul.” Obama was elected to be our president, the leader of the free world and the Commander in Chief.

I do not think that Obama’s responsibilities quite match up with those of the Dalai Lama.

  2. Thom Norris says:

Well the point is, there should be no race issue or issue of his responsibilities whether you like Obama or not, the fact is he falls straight into the left-right paradigm and isn’t going to ‘change’ anything, no he can’t deal with all of his inherited problems, but I am strongly suspicious that he doesn’t want to either. Obama controls very little and the only hope America has when it comes to the Executive branch is if he turns round and stops playing the game of the globalist bankers. End of.

  3. Roni says:

Alice Walker has finally gone over the edge. Sounds to me like she is not qualified to give anyone advice…but since she is freely giving it…let me give her some advice…stop fighting the Bible that your mama used to quote, read it for yourself and maybe THEN you will have some real understanding.
