Exit poll: Black voters back Calif. marriage ban
By MARCUS WOHLSEN, Associated Press Writer

California’s black and Latino voters, who turned out in droves for Barack Obama, provided key support for a state ban on same-sex marriage. Christian, married and older voters also helped give the measure the winning edge, according to exit polls for The Associated Press. (more…)

The next time some liberal wants to lecture you on how conservatives need to reinvent themselves and become more open-minded, show them this.

Skip it! They’ll still come up with a “rationalization” for this as well.

You are totally correct about the rationalization, Duane. Most of the more left-leaning liberals I know simply mock conservatives for their religious beliefs. One guy says “If they’re really religious, they’re stupid. But some of them say they are, and only say it for convenience; they realize how stupid it is and just won’t admit it.”

I’ve never gotten a straight answer from folks like this how they reconcile someone like Obama with their World View. According to them, either Obama truly IS religious (and thus stupid) – or he is just conning people that he is religious for expendiency. Neither are very attractive.

So – your post is quite apt. Especially the part about the rationalization!

Is it really so hard to believe that the majority of blacks and latinos in the USA are NOT in favor of Gay marriage? No matter how these groups voted on Tuesday they are overwhelming Christian or Muslim in there religious beliefs. Guess what? The majority of these people do not believe abortion is right either.

“Christian, married and older voters also helped give the measure the winning edge, according to exit polls for The Associated Press.”

Lets see, Blacks and Latinos fit into these groups also and generally share the same core values. Gay marriage a a very touchy issue for the vast majority of democrats in general. This is one of the issues you can expect to see get pushed back as the Dems aim their policies closer to the center and the right.

The “fringes” did NOT win this election for the Democrats. It was the appeal made to the political middle-ground that gave the Dems and Obama his victory. Lets hope the Dems got the message!

Sorry, Give it a Rest. THE primary story of this election was that, for the first time in history, the mainstream media was backing one candidate, and they were derelict in their duty of reporting facts. Obama might have won anyway had they done so – but – we’ll never know.

  4. Wil says:

Blaming the defeat of prop 8 on Blacks is ridiculous. It was defeated by all Californians, just like in the prior attempt… I wonder how many parents want their children taught homosexual marriage in school? If the gays were smart, they would have included a provision to make polygamy legal also in their bill, then it would have passed in a landslide.

  5. Give it a rest says:

    Peg,

The irony is that many of those same people who claim to have no faith in the mainstream media actually went out and voted for Obama. IF they had already professed a lack of faith in the media it is hard to now claim that the media was able to “brainwash” them into believing in Obama.

Dont know about where you live but the Media appears to be evenly divided between liberal and conservative outlets.
In the simplest forms you have CNN and you have Fox. You have the NYT and the NY Post. Fox and the Post gave ZERO support to Obama’s campaign yet folks just were now willing to listen to their usually BS this year.

The smoke has cleared and the mirror is broken!

  6. Peg says:

Give it – you really want to compare the New York Times with the New York Post? I grant you that the former is far more liberal than the latter. But – while I don’t have the exact numbers, I’m certain that the circulation for the Times is vastly higher than the Post.

Multitude of studies done that the press is way biased to the left. And – this election, it went beyond what the “normal” left leaning bias is.
