Radio Host Threatened After McCain Rally
Shelley Walcott

MILWAUKEE – The hate mail started pouring in almost immediately after Newsradio 620 WTMJ radio host James T. Harris addressed Senator John McCain Thursday at a Republican rally in Waukesha.

“You know this is sort of a sampling of the emails that I’ve been receiving,” Harris said,” Hey Sambo, maybe Master McCain will let you shine his shoes since you did such a good job licking his boots.”

[…]

“I knew something was up when The New York Times and The Washington Post started asking me questions and then CNN and then Fox. I was like, ‘Oh Lord!'”

Harris’ comment to McCain made heavy rotation on national talk shows. And Harris says he’s heard from African Americans from across the country now accusing him of being a sellout.

“Most of the stuff that I got in the email was like, ‘How can a black man stand up and say that?’ Well you know what? I happen to be an American of African descent, but I am a conservative.” (more…)

Okay, here is what is so funny about this whole story. A Black man who is a conservative gets called out as a “sellout” for supporting McCain BY THE SAME FOLKS WHO EITHER CALLED BIDEN A ‘RACIST’ OR DIDN’T DEFEND HIM WHEN HE MADE THOSE QUESTIONABLE REMARKS ABOUT BLACKS AND INDIANS AT THAT TIME (How convenient!). As soon as Obama selected Biden as his running mate, he was immediately given his Black pass by Black Democratic commentators like Brandon M. Terry and others urging Black folks to now look beyond the faults of this ‘imperfect man’ and embrace him. Why? Because the end justifies the means. So if we are to engage in slavery-era vernacular, it appears that Biden’s “boots” have been pretty shinny since being added to the ticket.

Richard Ivory of the blog HipHopRepublican.com recently mentioned an interesting encounter he had at a public demonstration in New York.

It was in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks that Mr. Ivory engaged in politics and became interested in the Republican Party. As a staunch supporter of the Iraq war, he was often the only black person at pro-war rallies, he said.

At one demonstration in New York in 2004, he recalled, an antiwar protester, who was white, used a racial slur against him, and black demonstrators with the protester kept silent. (more…)

Of course we have seen this before when Condoleezza Rice was depicted as a ‘mammy’ by political cartoonists like Jeff Danziger, Pat Oliphant and Garry Trudeau (link), much of the Black community looked away just like this guy at the rally. Cartoonist Ted Rall also flashed his Black pass like some kid who just received his first credit card with no shame of fear of retaliation. In this cartoon, he depicted Rice as some international ho who does her best diplomacy on her back.

No spirited arguments comparing this to how historically Black women were portrayed as sex objects. Nothing.

In another cartoon, he depicts Rice making the confession that she was Bush’s “house nigga”.

But of course if you mention any of this, you are considered to be a whiner and to put it all into perspective.

Oh, I got your perspective.

Manning Johnson, a former Black operative for the American Communist Party many years ago wrote the following in his book “Color, Communism and Common Sense“. Go to Research tab on the top of the page to find and download the full book.

In their usual diabolically clever way, the reds took the name of a fine, sincere and beloved
character made famous in the greatest indictment of chattel slavery and transformed him into a “dirty, low, sneaky, reacherous, groveling, sniveling coward.” This the reds did in order to make the name “Uncle Tom” the symbol of social, economic and political leprosy. Today, the name “Uncle Tom” among Negroes ranks with the term McCarthyism generally, turning many ministers into moral cowards, many politicians into scared jackrabbits and many other leaders in hypocrites.

No man dare stand up and proclaim convictions counter to red agitation without running the certain risk of being pilloried. The reds, their fellow travelers, leaders of the N.A.A.C.P. and other race agitators have created an ideal climate for such persecution.

Nice to see the sexual double standards being applied in a thoroughly partisan way.

    Duane,

I guess all of those black folks that do not agree with the GOP agenda and the few blacks folks that do are all just ignorant!

Funny. IIRC the story was that good ole Condi was shoe shopping on 5th Ave in NYC without a clue while her boss was NOT doing Jack-shit about the situation in New Orleans.

The old saying that I sure most black folks are familiar with is: “Lie down with dogs and you will come up with flees”

Not for nothing but there are millions of educated, hard-working, conservative valued black people in the USA that refuse to have anything to do with the GOP. They go to church just like you and they are very serious about the values they instill in their children, yet the thought of GWB and the rest of his cohort turns their stomachs.

There are many valid reason for their negative reaction the the republican party that you appear to be simply willing to ignore. That fact that you refuse to acknowledge a fault does not make it go away.
In an attempt to gain some vaildity for your view point you appear to be willing to “sterotype” your own people with that same silly us and against them metality that is prevalent within the GOP. It is easy to believe that all those “ghetto negros” dont have clue and are simply fodder for the “jackass” machine but once you take into consideration all of those smart black democrats it does become a bit more difficult to see the world as you do.

Okay, now you are shadow boxing. You know I never said or eluded to anything like that.

Not for nothing but there are millions of educated, hard-working, conservative valued black people in the USA that refuse to have anything to do with the GOP.

And let me guess, you have been elected as their official spokesperson, right?

There are many valid reason for their negative reaction the the republican party that you appear to be simply willing to ignore.

Give me a “valid” reason why any Black person will turn their head when they see a fellow Black person being called racist names by White folks and I will show you a sellout.

In an attempt to gain some vaildity for your view point you appear to be willing to “sterotype” your own people with that same silly us and against them metality that is prevalent within the GOP.

    Duane,

Right or wrong today the GOP is seen as the refuge for all disenchanted white folks that feel it is everyone else that is the cause of their problems. The problem is the GOP does little to nothing to dispell this belief/ sterotype. The reason they do not is because it does get them votes.

Personally I do not need to deal with a party that openly is attracting “redneck, joe sixpacks” in need of some feel good “Good ole American” politics. The world has changed on these folks and they simply have a hard time excepting the fact that America is now full of many better educated and employed black folks that are enojoy better lifestyles than their own. You know those “other” people that were always supposed to be held lower than the good ole boys.

Yes the world is shrinking fast for these people but it aint my fault. Today many in white America are waking up and coming to terms with the fact that they are NOT well educated and are NOT very competitive in this modern world. The last 30 years of worhtless flag waving has not gotten them much of anything but sore arm! Now they are praying to god to help them get out of the mess they made for themsleves.

But hey we all know Affirmative Action and Welfare for black folks is the cause of all of their probelms!

These are the people that the GOP is happy to represent even if is cost them the “center” and the rank and file black vote. Joe sixpack must have his party so F*&k the rest of us with conversative values. Look at the demographics of the GOP, the situation I am talking about is real!

THAT is why the overwhelming majority of Blacks will not touch the GOP with a ten foot pole. We dont like politicial conventions were the camera has to keep focusing on the 3 black people in the arena filled with 20,000 in a false attempt tp protray racial unity within that party.

    Duane,

Thank you for this article. I am a black female conservative who doesn’t blindly follow the Democratic party (Or Republican Party for that matter too) no matter what candidate they throw out as bait. I get so tired of people (usually white Liberals) assuming my political views because of my skin color. And to “Give It a Rest” I’d just like to remind you that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr & President Lincoln were both Republicans.
