Black teachers in Phila. schools: A vanishing breed

  1. ongoaler says:

new feed of information for me, who lives just 20 mins from Philly. Yeah, what a dismaying news, particularly regarding that philly is one of the most densely populated areas with African americans.

  2. Give it a rest says:

Damned if you do damned if you do not!

The poor black children that need black teachers are actually the same children that force the black teachers that care to leave the inner-city schools at the first chance they can get to teach in the “better” districts.

I know a few teachers in NYC that all started teaching right after college. Between having their property stolen, threats of assault, actual assaults, insults from children and parents, or simply dealing day to day with a bunch of people that do not care about education (something the teachers care a great deal about) 2 have left the profession and one has transfered to a much better district.

    Can you blame them?
