Who remembers those Malcolm X potato chips?

Posted: July 7, 2008 in Our Expression

If you lived in the northeast back in the 90’s right around the release of Spike Lee’s “X” movie, you might just remember seeing a black bag with the “X” printed on the front. While I was unable to find a picture of the actual bag, I did manage to come across another blast from the past as well as some interesting snacks from the ‘hood’ of today.

‘memba “Homegirls” chips?

On the back of the bag is said the following:

MOTHERHOOD

As we look to becoming mothers one day, we will produce good children with good manners and good minds. We are the first teachers.

WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE THIS THING AROUND

MARRIAGE

We should save ourselves for marriage. Why should a man respect us if he can have us before marriage? Respect yourself and everyone will respect you. NO RING…NO THING?

WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE THIS THING AROUND

THE POWER WITHIN US

The force within us is stronger than the negative forces outside of us. So our message to bad influences is… STEP OFF!

THERE IS A NEW BAG ON THE BLOCK… ITS ALL THAT..AND A BAG OF CHIPS.

=====

After that, it just got straight up silly. The following are more recent releases from the company Rapsnacks.

Remember, “Education is Knowledge”.

But does that include NUTRITIONAL knowledge?

    Some things that we tossed in the back of the cupboard should stay there. Duane, this may be unheard of, but if you can – please burn this post.

    Aww come on Andre. You know these chips were the bomb–especially if you washed it all down with some Tahitian Treat.
