The Mammy State

“Eliot is one of an estimated 300,000 children of illegal immigrants born in the United States every year, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. They’re given instant citizenship because they are born on U.S. soil, which makes it easier for their parents to become U.S. citizens.” (From: Illegal Immigrant Births – At Your Expense – cbsnews.com)

One of the roles of the historical mammy was to take care of children that did not belong to her. Her “pay” typically wasn’t money, but the satisfaction of knowing that her overseers were pleased with her work. The toll this took on the woman who worked as ‘mammy’ was of no real concern to the family she served. Such is the case for America in this situation. Each year we are put in the position to use resources that should be spent on our own citizens in need to take care of families of other nations.
