Probably the one of the best sections of USA Today is the little graphic on the front page that illustrates the results of some recent survey or study. Here are a few that caught my attention:
Hispanics are most likely to die from work-related accidents.
This information was based on findings by the US department of labor. Per 100,000 workers:
3.7 Black workers were more likely…
4.0 White workers
4.9 Hispanic workers
Kid’s populaton is on decline
28% of populaton was children (1980)
26% of population…(2000)
24% of population… (2020)
But on the flip side…
Spending for pets has jumped dramatically
$17 billion in 1994
$40 billion in 2005

Guess people want pets more than they want kids.
About 2 year ago, I accompanied my cousin to the animal shelter to buy a cat. She had to submit the deed to her home,an income statement and a under go a psychological evaluation. When we returned the next week, with required documents, she then had to buy a carrying case, tags etc.
To this day, the shelter mails the cat (or my cousin) holiday cards, birthday cards, information about animal events. Not to say that this is a bad thing.
One the other hand, when a child leaves the hospital. All you need to prove to the hospital is that you have a car seat to transport the child. No birthday cards or parenting support…Good Luck and Goodbye.
Yeah,in short,Americans value animals more than they do children. That’s why I love Africa. There children are your wealth!
As for the job death stats. I’d be interested in knowing the source of the data. Let’s see.. reduce the sample size to 1000 vs.100,000 and round out our numbers. Hmm…after we account for population by race …set up some ratio equations..then divide this by that…and throw in some Bureau of the Census stats..and what do we get? The occurence of work related deaths is as follows:
White workers are least likely to experience work related deaths; dying at a rate of .066 per 1000 workers. Followed by Black workers at .185 per 1000 workers and Hispanic workers at .222 per thousand. The smaller the number, the more likely you are to live. Whites experience work related deaths 3 times less than Blacks; and 3.7 times less than Hispanics on. THAT is an entirely different message.
If ya get the message say,”yeah”….”YEAH!”
