BOOKER RISING COMMENTARY - Communitarianism: A Strategy for Black Moderates and Conservatives?

No, not communism but communitarianism. Tyrone and Imani, you’re probably thinking: “What the hell are they talkin’ about here?” Communitarians emphasize the role of communities in shaping individuals (vs. libertarianism, which emphasizes the role of individuals in shaping communities). Communitarians are staunch advocates of a civil society - instead of government - promoting social mores. However, they believe that individual rights must be balanced with social responsibility.
